P. I. TCHAIKOVSKY – Symphony No. 4 in F Minor, Op. 36
During the Romantic era, literature and the inner life became major sources of musical inspiration. In his Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, Tchaikovsky brings Shakespeare’s tragedy into the orchestra. Forceful rhythms depicting the conflict between the families contrast with a broad, lyrical melody representing love, creating the story’s tension through music. Say’s Accordion Concerto places an instrument rooted in many cultures at the centre of a dialogue between soloist and orchestra. Introspective passages alternate with lively rhythms, revealing the accordion’s expressive range. Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony is shaped by the recurring opening motif that the composer associated with fate. Moving from melancholic melodies to the festive atmosphere of the finale, the music brings personal anxiety and shared joy together. Both composers use melodic expression and rhythmic contrasts to convey shifting emotions. Josep Vicent will conduct the orchestra, with Ksenija Sidorova as the accordion soloist in Fazıl Say’s concerto.
